5Fine product for great priceDec 24, 2009
By Christine "Brooklyn Corvid"
I first set up a suet feeder at my father's when he moved to a rural setting. It attracted all sorts of birds -- even species that supposedly do not care for suet. I have since set up a suet feeder outside my window in NYC, and the city birds flock to it, especially in winter when food is scarce.

Not only does it satisfy the birds, but it entertains our cats too.

I highly recommend this product.

5Excellent ProductNov 28, 2009
By C. Johnson
The birds in my yard love this suet and during the cold, winter months they often go through more than one cake per day. I have been very pleased with warm weather use as well because the cakes don't melt in the heat like some brands do.
C&S is also very generous in the amount of seeds they use in their suet, so I feel like the birds are getting my money's worth! Excellent product, consistently superior quality and reasonably priced.

1MISLEADING AD - BUYER BEWARE !Jun 25, 2008
By Friend of a Feather
Bird lovers should note that the $1.29 price quoted is "per cake" and the item is sold in a 12-pack only ($15.48 total, plus $9.75 shipping = $25.23.) This works out to an unimpressive 18% savings, further reduced by a high shipping charge. Do not be misled into thinking, as I was, that the 12-pack is $1.29 + $9.75 shipping = $11.04 (works out to $0.92 per cake, which would be a great price, similar to Xmas Tree Shops.) I placed an order thru Amazon, put $11.05 on my Mastercard, and received one suet cake in a padded envelope. I do not call $11.05 for a single suet cake a terrfic buy -- in fact, I'd call it a rip-off. I called Grady's several times and was continually referred to someone who wasn't in the store that day. After several attempts, they agreed to credit the full price, and said not to bother returning the item. Okay ! They also agreed that the ad was misleading and they'd fix it. Okay ! Except the credit was never processed, and the ad remains the same. I had to follow-up several times 4 weeks later, asking if the credit had been processed. This, my feathered friends, is a lot of work for a suet cake. Finally, I took it up with Amazon, and they issued the credit. I would not recommend dealing with this vendor. I would highly recommend Nottawa Bird Supply (they have a website), that sells a high-quality product in a variety pack with free shipping. Forget Grady's -- they certainly do not warrant top placement on anyone's page.

5A VERY SATISFACTORY PRODUCTJun 11, 2010
By D. Blankenship
We have been using these C&S Suet cakes for about three our four years now. We have ten to twelve suet baskets installed around and near our house; most in plan view, others rather hidden. Living in the middle of an isolated woodland area with many trees and much brush gives the birds plenty of room to establish their own territory.

We use the C&S brand first because the birds like the stuff. Of the many "flavors" they offer, we have not found one that the birds reject to any extent. I have watched rather closely and cannot tell a significant difference. Perhaps others may have a different experience and different observations. Secondly, this product can be used year round. It does not melt when the weather is hot, and we do have some hanging in the direct sun. Third, they do not seem to attract the insects that some brands do, nor to that have a bad odor, and fourth, the price of this product is extremely competitive compared to other brands. To be quite frank, I have tried many of the more expensive brands and cannot tell one bit of difference in them and the C&S brand. I might add that it is always available at local stores in our area which make it rather convenient.

We use the C&S holders and personally prefer the front loaders, i.e. the ones that have tension clips on the top and swing down. We have our holders mounted on trees in a solid fashion at various heights. We do use small staples to permanently attach the basket to the tree as we have found that once in a while raccoons will try to take the entire basket to where ever raccoons take things. C&S dose make a variety of suet baskets and a person needs to figure out which works the best in their particular situation.

We also use the baskets with the coated wider (no rust) and the smaller holes, as this seems to cut down on rodent pilferage...although I do not begrudges an occasional furry critter having a quick meal.

These cakes are primarily used by birds of the woodpecker tribe although, especially in the winder, we do have other species use them. We have a rather large woodpecker population near and around us.
