DON'T USE PINE FOR SMALL ANIMALS!Apr 14, 2007
By Mya R. Davis
"Critter crazy"
I have raised small animals for along time. I also used to manage a pet store. Pine is the most dangerous substrate for small animals. The dust causes respiratory problems, that causes your animals to cough up and sneeze blood. I have found in the animals that I have rescued that have this ailment seem to get better when I switch them over to Carefresh bedding. I HIGHLY recommend using it, it also highly reduced the odor that it caused by urine. The other benefits are: you little friend will be more comfortable sleeping on something soft, and it is much easier to clean!

Good odor controlApr 01, 2009
By Noname I got a sample of Carefresh Colors from the petstore when I bought the Hamster cage kit and loved it. I've owned guinea pigs, rats and hamsters before but had never used Carefresh Colors. I was impressed with its softness and its ability to absorb fluids and odors.
It was time for me to buy some more bedding and I thought Carefresh was pretty much the same as Carefresh Colors, except that Carefresh was less colorful. Out of the bag, I was a little disappointed, because the bedding was not as soft and fluffy as Carefresh Colors. It has more the texture of something I might expect if maybe I wet a bunch of newspaper, wadded it up, let it dry and then shredded what was left. It's rough and dry.
My hamsters don't seem to mind the change. They shred the Carefresh to make it fluffier for the little corner they like to burrow in. It's just as absorbent as the Carefresh Colors and controls odors just as well. The cage smells nice and fresh. Although it's not as pretty as Carefresh Colors, there is an advantage to it being a drab grey, the feces don't show.
If softness and bright color is important to you and your small pet, get Carefresh Colors. If hiding the feces is more important, regular Carefresh is best. If you are looking for absorbance and odor control, they both work equally well.

UPDATE: It seems the quality of the bedding varies greatly from lot to lot. My second batch of this stuff is lighter in color and not as rough, although it's still rougher than the Carefresh Colors.

Best bedding everJun 09, 2011
By CandleSurgeon Works great for my guinea pig. He seems very happy since I switched to this bedding. Also it keeps the odor away for almost two weeks. Well worth the price.

carefresh pet beddingMay 18, 2009
By designer at heart Carefresh pet bedding is the only pet bedding we would use. We have quite a few pets and have used other litters and this by far is superior. You don't have to change the litter as often, which is nice. It absorbs and contains odors much better than anything else. It's more costly but well worth it.
soft bedding materialApr 11, 2012
By Amby my 4 female mice go to town on this stuff.
I have them in a tank with a topper- and the bottom is filled pretty deep with some paper towels, this carefresh bedding, some soft wood, and some timothy hay. So far, so good.
it definitely feels soft to me, and my mice have no qualms about burrowing in and around all of it. they drag in quite a bit for their nest area, and it does seem to help a bit with the odor between changes, as well as any water that drips from the water bottle up top.
