I was very skeptical of this product at first because I had tried other brushes and combs for my cat (average hair length). He had been shedding excessively. After using the FURminator, I had no fur on my hands after petting him, his coat felt smoother and cleaner, and most importantly...no more cat fair flying about or on furniture.
I used the spray, but I haven't done a direct comparison of with spray and without, so I can't comment on its effectiveness.
I highly recommend this product.

"Furminator mom"
Lexi loves to be "furminated" and will stand still forever while all that undercoat is removed. Every bladeful that comes off is a reminder to me that it's that much more hair that won't be in my house. Great product and worth the money. No instructions on how frequently the device should or can be used on a dog.

This is THE best de-shedding tool on the market. My cat doesn't mind it when I comb her head, neck, and back, but will attack my hand on her belly, so it may be worth noting you should be very gentle the first time you use this to gauge your pet's comfort level. It is the most hair I've ever been able to get out of her coat; I was truly taken aback...I could have filled a grocery store bag with all of the fur I got out. Regarding the spray that comes with it, I also love it. I use it on my cat and dog, and it isn't just like spraying a mist like most products - I can actually see the soap bubbles. Smells fantastic.

After my cat starting losing fur all over the house, I knew I needed to upgrade to some other device besides the basic fine-comb for cats.
This Furminator is AMAZING. It is not only just a super-fine-tooth comb. It has small razors in between the combs that actually cut the old hair and leave in the good hair. It's pretty amazing how simple, yet how great, this product works.
With everyday use, my cat has grown to like being brushed while eating. I take away a good handful of hair almost everyday. Highly rec to all cat owners and all dog owners who have shedding-friends.

When I first introduced this to my cats you would have thought I was ripping there skin off, not that it hurts them, they were just completely scared of it. It took me a couple weeks of just rubbing the non blade side of the tool on them for them not flee in horror every time they saw it in my hand. It is still a challenge, and I can only get about 5 strokes in before they run away, but it is getting better. My cats are by no means skittish, and they love attention and to be pet, but they just don't like this. I can say it does take A LOT of hair off, but I can't say it stops them from shedding because I am not able to get them completely done, so it's only a little effective for me.
