Accuracy Questionable - Poor for an Electronic DeviceOct 10, 2008
By Victor C.
"Mr. Duck Guy"
I was dismayed at the varying results displayed by the analog hygrometers at the store, they were all in the same environment and they displayed much different readings. I wasn't interested in paying for a gauge that doesn't display accurate readings.
I assumed that an electronic hygrometer would have been much more accurate than the analog ones I'd been using. So I purchased the Fluker's digital model. I thought it was ok, and tried to calibrate all my analog gauges to the readings from the Fluker's. Then I bought the second electronic hygrometer, the EXACT SAME MODEL. Of course I expected the readings to be exactly the same, or at worst within one point of each other.
I am not kidding, Fluker's packaging states clearly these specifications:
HUMIDITY 1%
TEMPERATURE 0.1°
The readings from both my Fluker's electronic gauges are not up to Fluker's own specifications.
My gauges are inaccurate - here are my side-by-side results:
HUMIDITY 4%
TEMPERATURE 1.7°
I called the company about this at their Port Allen Louisiana headquarters (225-343-7035 or 800-735-8537). When I asked how shall I tell which gauge is the accurate one, they offered no suggestions on how to calibrate or test them. They told me one or both of them were damaged and that I ought to go back to the store where I bought them, suggesting that the pet store may be able to verify the accuracy of the two gauges. They suggested that I exchange one or both gauges at the pet shop where they were purchased. They did not offer any other help, and this item isn't warrantied by Fluker's in any way.
You might be better off avoiding this item for the above reasons. Otherwise, even though Fluker's seems to be either lying or not interested in providing an accurate description of their product's calibration - you might be able to use these items for uses in which the accuracy isn't critical.

Very variable.Mar 23, 2008
By Brenda Irvine Nice size and appearance; easy to read and use; nice functions. I bought six of these, but found them extremely variable between units. Over two degrees temperature difference and 3% humidity difference between the six units. They are labeled for use in reptile/amphibian terrariums, so perhaps in this environment a little variability doesn't matter. I would not recommend them for inside incubators where accuracy is more critical.

excellent product but wrong dimentions...Feb 14, 2008
By Jamal K. Alghamdi I hesitated before buying this product and the cause is the dimension mentioned in the description "4.5 x 0.5 x 6 inches" but when i received it it was small and light, actually it was 1.5 x 0.5 x 6 inches. worked fast and accurate as mentioned, no calibration nor maintenance required...
highly recommended either for pet environment control or cigar humidor...

It's just a Fluke!Jul 14, 2009
By Repo Man There's a reason this Hygrometer is called Fluker's, because it's a "Fluke" if you can get one that actually works. With their lack luster customer service, you are better off getting the Caliber III digital hygrometer/thermometer from Western Humidor and be done with it or at bare minimum get a Hygroset II thats adjustable.

Accurate & smallSep 22, 2009
By Carlos Alvarez Others have noted that they got units which didn't agree, making the accuracy suspect. Mine is spot-on in agreement with a higher-end electronic humidification unit that is calibrated to 70% for a cigar humidor. The unit is very small and works well in a travel humidor as well as the larger ones.
