Help! My pet's water bottle is leaking! Proper instructions to avoid a leaky water bottle: In order to avoid your pet's water bottle from leaking, simply make sure to completely fill the water bottle to the very top with water. There should be no empty space and no air bubbles. This method will enable the bottle to function properly. As your little critter drinks from the bottle and the water level decreases, leaking should not occur as long as a 'vacuum' was initially created by filling the bottle completely without any room for air bubbles. If you find the water bottle is still leaking try to release the air bubbles by putting your finger over the ball, located in the spout of the bottle, to release any unwanted/trapped air bubbles.

4Holds a lot but also leaks a lot when you first fill it.May 11, 2011

I followed the instructions to the letter about how to use this bottle and not have it leak. Bottom line is it does leak, it leaks a lot when you first fill it and hang it. Every time you fill it and hang it back on the cage expect it to leak. Not just a few drops it will really dump water out even if you're being careful with it. It comes with two brackets to hang the bottle. One goes around the spout and one goes around the top of the bottle. The design of the upper bracket and how it fits into the grove on the bottle is flawed. It's not a great fit but it works.

Here's the good news. It holds a large amount of water especially in comparison to other bottles. It's the traditional ball style so it can be used for a wide array of animals. I use these on my brooder cages for my Silkie chickens and it works great to provide clean fresh water. While I mentioned it does leak, it's important to mention that for the most part once you get it hung up and the animal starts to drink out of it the leaking will cease almost completely. You'll still get some drips but they aren't a big deal in comparison to other bottles of this same style. In my experience none of them are leak proof if you're dealing with the ball style.

Overall, I would buy this product again and I would also recommend this bottle to others. Don't expect perfection and you won't be disappointed.

This is the only water bottle I will buy and use for my six ferrets. It holds up, it doesn't leak, and for the price, you can't beat it.

5Holds lots, works when you treat it right, no frills, great priceJul 10, 2011

I have tried a dozen different brands of bottles for my rabbits and my flock of 30 chickens, and I've finally come back to this simple bottle. It isn't clear plastic, it isn't pretty, it's not a top fill, but it works just fine, and it's never leaked continually when I've filled it and closed it right.
The two problems I've had are, initially, when I go to clip it on the hardware cloth walls of the chicken run, or the bars of the rabbit cage, it squirts a little water from the pressure my hands put on the soft plastic. It also seems to get the ball jammed up in the steel spout sometimes from my chickens pecking it hard to drink. My rabbits never jam the ball, however. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars, if I could.
I use six bottles for my adult flock in the spring & summer, all clamped to the outside of the run wire. I use one for my pair of French Angoras.
I'm very satisfied by the non-leakiness of these bottles if they are filled fully & screwed on correctly.
Some of the hard-plastic Nalgene-style bottles seem to continually leak, as do the top-fills, but this one plain works.

2Not as great as it could be.Jun 24, 2011

When I got the water bottle, it came with a typed piece of paper as the instructions. It told you how to fill it, but also, that you had to create a vaccuum so it wouldn't leak, EVERY TIME YOU FILL IT. I didn't have time to fuss with a leak everytime I filled it up. I wanted the product to hydrate my pets, not leak all over. Bottom line, not as great as it could be.
