5Great yard management and training toolJul 28, 2010
I have a small dog and a mid-sized dog. I was looking for a way to make sure they had lots of yard to play in but didn't want to put down permanent fencing because I hate trying to manage the grass around the base of a fence. So I bought several of these pens (I think I'm up to twelve of them now).

The trick with getting a dog to not jump over these pens is twofold. 1) Get them in the pen young enough that they grow into just "knowing" they can't do it. And 2) Get them around the pen on a hard floor and knock it over a couple of times. I did this by accident but the dogs now keep their paws off the pen because the clattering noise scares them.

I link the pens together with velcro (zip ties would work just as well), pound a couple of wooden stakes in the ground about one every four sections (I always use two on the sections wiht the gates), and my dogs have most of the yard to themselves and don't try to dig out or jump the thing. And when it comes time to mow the yard, it takes just a few minutes to pull up the stakes (with the pen still velcroed to them), mow through, and then reset the stakes in the same holes. [For a velcro solution, I use something like the Leviton 75' product, just a single roll where I cut off what I need]

A great thing is that these pens are fairly easy to step over (though be careful if you're wearing flip-flops because I always manage to trip myself up and that's a fall you don't want to think about, depending on if you're going into the the pen and how fastidious you've been keeping it cleaned up). Another great factor is that you can change the pen around as much as you like, unlike permanent fencing. I just changed the configuration to make sure the dogs have more shade and to block off access to a young tree that one of them felt she had to dig up, and it took maybe ten minutes. And if you block off an access point, it takes almost no effort to take out a section so you can get through. I like this solution so much that I'm planning on purchasing several more so that I can encompass more of the yard.

5Safe puppy containmentJul 28, 2010
We recently purchased this x-pen to help us keep our litter of puppies safely in a certain area. The edges are safe and smooth and though a little lighter in weight than the older x-pen we have, it is easier for me to move, it comes with anchors to secure it to the ground if outside and clips to hold the edges together if attaching to itself or some other item such as a crate or kennel run. I am very pleased.

5Good productJul 25, 2010
I bought a 48" high pen years ago, to use when we were traveling. Having the pen kept my dogs safe when visiting family ( who left doors and gates open..) It's a great pen, but is very heavy to move around. Recently, my dog ( small terrier mix) needed confinement for a back injury and didn't need such a high pen. I found this 24" height, which is a perfect size and easier to manage, but also sturdy enough to contain my dog. Now, he can be outside when I'm working in the yard with no worry about him getting too much activity. This is a great little pen and very well made.

5Best Purchase This YearJul 07, 2010
I should have bought one of these a long time ago! It's so easy to move and set up. I can move it around in the back yard to keep the dogs in the shade and I can get some gardening done without worrying where they are. It's also a piece of cake to throw in the car to take to camp or when we visit family/friends. I'd definitely buy another one. This isn't a criticism, but I wish this company made extension panels. I had to order from another company and couldn't find a good match. They're ok but not up to the quality of the Midwest Pen.

524" Exercise PenJun 25, 2010
We found this exercise pen at our local pet shop, but didn't want to pay the $79.99 plus tax price, so we found it at Amazon for $44. with no shipping or tax. We connect it to our dog crate that we also bought at Amazon.com and our little chihuahua love's it. We don't feel so guilty leaving her for a few hours with the exercise pen connected to her crate. Most people just crate their dogs all day long which seems cruel. With the exercise pen we can leave her crate door open, have her food and water in the pen with her pee pads and her toys and she is very happy and content for hours. It gives her an extra 16 feet of room and until she is house broken we will continue to use this method.
