colored playpenFeb 16, 2006
By Colleen S. Osman I ordered this playpen for my guinea pigs because I wanted them to frolic safely outside of their cage. I have been able to leave them unattended while in the playpen. My pigs do not seem to even consider climbing out or over the playpen. It is lightweight and of simple construction and yet it has worked perfectly. I think a hamster would easily shimmy up the wall and escape, and maybe an adventurous pig, but I have three grown-up pigs and five babies and all of us have enjoyed the playpen. Plus, the bright colors make it even more fun.

Great for my hedgehogJan 25, 2006
By KayDee I use this pen for my hedgehog and he has never figured how to get out. He has tried to scale the wall but is too small to reach the top. It is easy to set up, shape and take down, and I have connected up to 3 of them together to get a nice big pen when he has hedge friends over. There are simple loops and posts (2 loops on one side of the run and 2 posts on the other) to connect ends together, and this works well on flat surfaces like an indoor floor. However, out in the uneven grass of the yard it needs a twist-tie to make sure each run stays connected. Once you're done for the day they fold up accordian style which is easy for storage. It's simple, but it works.

makes a fun playground for hamster or gerbil or other small critterOct 10, 2005
By J. Johnson I believe this is the same playpen we have for our hamsters (and used with the gerbils we used to have, too). We set up paper towel tubes, plastic tubes, an exercise wheel, and other toys inside of it so our hamsters (separately, of course) can play in it. Caution: Always keep a very close eye on your hamster while he's playing in this playpen, because he *can* scale the wall and get out - especially at the corners. The playpens connect to one another, so you can put several of them together to make one large area in which your hamster can play. Our hamsters love this playpen - and the plastic drop cloth is a great idea. We always use newspaper and then scrub up anything that leaks through.
As the previous poster said, the playpen folds up very neatly and sets up just as quickly. It's very, very practical and a great way to keep your pet confined in one space to play - but under constant supervision.

Like babys don't leave your hamsters unattended!Aug 18, 2006

The little guys can climb up this thing! I resolved the matter by putting a very light coat of vegetable oil all over the metal. A little goes a long way! The hamster trys to climb on it and instead of getting to the top, he slides down. I did this enough times till my hamsters got used to not trying it again. But I still stay with them because you never know if they will try again some day!

Not tall enoughMay 25, 2006
By E. Murphy My (big, huge) long-haired Syrian hamster figured out how to escape from this the second time we used it. We still like to put him in it to play, but we have to watch him like a hawk to make sure he doesn't escape. It's good for letting a hamster roam and play, though.
