The Original Video Catnip is 25 minutes in length and has been the best selling pet video in the pet industry since its release in 1989. The DVD contains the Original Video Catnip and an additional 1 1/2 hour of footage for a total running time of approximately 2 hours. Shot in the highest quality video available and professionally manufactured and packaged, this is the video that started it all
There are basically four parts to the Video Catnip DVD. The first short segment is a fast paced collection of critter antics set to a humorous "Keystone Cops" type of musical accompaniment which produces two separate effects, one of which is to entertain the human viewer and the other is to signal the kitty that his favorite show is starting.
The second short segment is also a musical piece, but this time much slower. Its purpose is to give notice to the human viewer and the cat that the "kitty" portion of the show is about to begin.
The third segment, (over 21 minutes of the 25 minute original production running time) is for cats only. The cats are exposed to some beautiful close-ups of most of the cast with many group shots included.
The last segment, (1 1/2 hours), is the additional footage which is just for cats with more critter close ups and more natural birdie sounds.
As far as the effectiveness of Video Catnip to entertain cats, its been on the market for almost 13 years and has been found to be effective on almost all indoor cats. Outdoor kitties don't seem to be as impressed. Although most indoor kitties will watch the entire 25 minute show the first time they see it, some cats (who have never watched TV before) might need a little encouragement from mommy or daddy by tapping lightly on the TV screen to get kitty's attention. | | | Features: | |

Video Catnip -- DVDMar 28, 2009

"The Rook"
I sure hope Amazon finds another seller for this DVD. I really wanted it but when I started to buy it and they wanted $6.95 for shipping, I said forget it. I have bought over 1700 DVDs and I have never ever had someone charge that amount for shipping. Most sellers here charge $2.98, which is fair. Since these sellers tried to be so greedy I decided to do a search and I found you can pay a little more for the DVD but get free shipping at videocatnip.com, the actual makers of the DVD. They sell it for $19.95. So although it is $3.95 higher, the shipping is free so you end up saving $2.95.

Excellent!Dec 24, 2007
By Sarah J. Kyle This is an awesome video...my cat loves it. I have an older cat and it is hard to get his attention. I put a table in front of the TV and he sits there and paws the TV trying to catch the birds and squirrels. I thought after a while he would get bored but so far he hasn't. He climed behind the TV one time trying to see where the birds were coming from. Now every time I turn on the TV he jumps up on his table and waits for me to turn on his video.
I suggest making some other videos (maybe one with fish and one with insects or frogs or something) that way we can rotate the videos and they won't get bored watching the same ones every time. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has an indoor cat.

Cats love it.Nov 13, 2006
By Jaime Tabachnik My cat loves this DVD, just don't use with a flat panel unless it's behind glass as your cat may attack the screen.

A matter of choice, Audio needs workJul 28, 2007
By Di Carlson I have two cats; an active adult male siamese and a 13 week old female. Scooter, the older, could care less and watched the video only when I held him. Sasha, the kitten, loved it and almost fell off the cat tree pawing the birds.
Sasha can't get enough of it. She runs when she hears the tv click on. Good for some cats, but not all. I suspect it is the low sound level. The younger cat may have keener hearing than the older. I could barely hear it and it disappeared half way through the disk. Turning up volume only increased static. Video is a 5+. Audio a 3. Now if they only had scratch and sniff ...

Good as catnip!Dec 21, 2006
By Tealady Our cat was mesmerized by this video. At the very beginning, she didn't pay much attention, but then the video showed a cardinal, and her ears perked up and her eyes grew big as saucers! She was hooked! Mostly she sat in front of the TV with her eyes glued to the screen! About five times she actually tried to climb up to the TV! She will enjoy this.... and we shall enjoy watching her!
