3Didn't work for me.Apr 09, 2008
By esanta "esanta"
This brand gets such rave reviews and recommendations I had to give it a try, especially after noticing my poor kitties were sneezing a lot from the dust in their supermarket clumping litter. Well, I was glad to see the end of the bag.
The biggest problem I had with it was the lack of odor control, probably due to the fact that it's corn-based. After a couple of days it smells like flour soaked with vinegar gone rancid, and I scoop three times a day. I tried adding Arm & Hammer odor control powder, and it helped a little, but did not completely eliminate the smell.

Another problem is that because it's very lightweight, it tends to fly around and track much more than ordinary litter.

On the positive side, it is completely dust free.

I don't think "World's Best" is a bad product. Certainly many people, including some "cat people" I know at work, swear by it. I just wanted to point out that it wasn't "the best" for everybody. I am currently using Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter which is completely dust free, tracks much less and has excellent odor control. It's heavier to lug around, and it may not be as ecological, but it works better for my cats.

4Yeah, it's smelly, but it's good for your cat and the enviornment...May 25, 2008
By Phillip Roncoroni "goodcowfilms.com"
First, let me state that I don't smell any difference between this standard variety of World's Best litter and the "extra strength" one. They add some kind of plant protein to the "extra strength" one, but both litters are very lacking in odor control. Either that, or my cat takes extremely smelly poops.

However, if you don't mind the lack of odor control, this litter is great. It's just ground up corn. You can probably eat it if you had to, with GREAT DEPRESSION 2 coming (joking). But really, corn litter is better for the environment than strip mining it for clay litter. Since it's just corn, it's completely safe and healthy for your cat as well.

Sometimes the urine clumps break apart. My cat loves to dig into this litter and kick it all over the place and it's annoying to sweep up off the floor. And yeah, it tracks. I see little yellow paw prints on the carpet sometimes.

But I care about my cat's health and that's why I use this litter. Plus, he seems to like it. Though, to be fair, any litter I've tried with him in the past he's used without being fussy.

5Good productJan 01, 2008

We have always had 2 cats in the house. 1 is 20+lbs. They have no problems filling the litter box either. We have a littermaid box so clumping properties are important. Due to allergys the ammount of dust is also an important factor.
We have found that this litter is one of the best. there is a minimum of dust when filling the box. The clay based litters always threw up a cloud that made it difficult on our allergys. This litter does not set either of our allergys off. The littermaid has no problems scooping this litter either. it has held up to our cats quite well. The multiple cat formula has done a super job of keeping the smell down. both of our cats are old and are quite able to stink a person out of the bathroom. with this litter there is no lingering smell. some of the other litters we have tried are no where close when handeling smells. this litter does not have perfumes in it like others that can set allergys off. we have noticed a big difference between the multiple cat formula and the regular. we highly recomend the multiple over regular. regular is still better then most of the supermarket brands in many ways.

515 cats and countingNov 04, 2009

How much for a bag of litter?!!! That was my first comment when I was told about WBCL. When I read a review stating it's the most and least expensive litter product there is. Huh? Then I read more, and with the addition of 5 more cats inside, made the choice to at least try it.

Wow, I'm glad I did. Not only does it have a unique smell (think bags of cattle feed...almost a sweet grain smell). It doesn't overpower the waste products with some sickly 99yr old womans perfume, but it doesn't smell like basic unscented clay does after a day. With 15 cats in the house now, odor control is a major priority. There is very little smell escaping from the boxes and what does doesn't last for long.

Dust is very low. We've been using supermegawarehouse litter, the stuff you get in 40lb buckets. This stuff could give a desert dust storm a run for it's money. The WBCL pales in comparison. If you rated the normal litter a 10 for it's dust cloud producing capabilities, you would be hard pressed to give WBCL a 1. What little dust it produces is only on the initial pour into the box. I can live with that.

And it clumps like granite. The little golfball sized clumps are easily removed, with the tootsie rolls just as easily disposed of. Some of the pudding we get left with, if a cat is sick or ate something it shouldn't have, manages to dry out a bit due to the litter being readily absorbent. I can't complain about that either.

It even lives up to it's "most and least expensive" description. Not the cheapest mix on the market, but it really does take a long time to get to the bottom of the bag. In the 3 of the 6 litter boxes I tried it out in, it's still within an inch of the original level after 2 weeks. I'd have had to add more of the regular litter by now. I'm guesstimating that I'll use a bit less than 1/2 as much WBCL. Given the other plusses, it's worth the money. Especially when you consider the stuff is lighter, and 34lbs is a larger volume than 34lbs of our normal stuff. We use the concrete mixing trays available at home improvement stores for litter boxes, and one bag will take care of almost 3 of them. There's a lot in a bag.

I've given the cats the option of the 2 types, with 1 box being half and half. Once they start using it, I'll pour another with 100%. So far, we haven't found any mouse heads in our bed, so I'm guessing they're not displeased with the change so far. (at first, they also liked the taste, so I'm not sure they really understand the whole litter concept to start with)

5It really is the best!Mar 06, 2008

Just the fact that it's flushable would, for me, outweigh any other negative factors. I would put up with some smell, some dust, tracking etc just for the convenience. Fortunately, I don't have to put up with those things - as long as I practice some general litter box maintenance on a regular schedule. I experimented with how long I could go without completely emptying out the boxes to clean (I use Clever Cat top-entry boxes) and it's about 2 months. At that point the remaining litter has broken down into dust and no longer clumps as well or controls odor. However, if I stick to emptying my two boxes (for two cats) about twice a week I only smell the poo if one of them has been particularly active. I live in a condo built in the 80's and I haven't had any issues with flushing or pipe problems. I don't mind paying a little more for this litter as it makes owning cats easier! Less time cleaning and more time snuggling!
